Summer Holiday - June & July

With baby Joshua's birth we decided to take an early summer holiday to enjoy our new addition. My mom and dad flew out from Florida to visit us and we all took off to Cornwall for a family vacation. Opportunities to learn are everywhere and Alex loved Flambards and all the great educational exhibits they have there. He learned about the weather cycles, Victorian England, Wild Animals and more. He learned about knights and castles on our visit to St. Michael's Mount and spent time enjoying dam building in the tide pools of Porthcuerno Beach near our cottage. Our home ed group continued to meet and expand with more families visiting and our numbers increasing to over a hundred mums, dads and kids! Here are some pictures from our holiday.

So our summer holiday was a lot of fun and a great chance to learn as well.

April & May Activities

April brought some more beautiful weather and the opportunity to spend more time outside. It also saw the start of our new Homeschool group, Experience Education. It started out as idea I had to start a support group for families with young children who were already home educating or just examining their options. After meeting with a few other very interested mums the vision evolved into one of a group for families with children of all ages. Our first meeting saw over fifty mums and children and the launching of our website www.experience-education.co.uk.

We enjoyed our first field trip to Bekonscot Model Village.

We did a lot of varied activities but didn't follow our normal schedule since I was still having some issues with premature labour and had many days where I just had to rest. Here is just a sample of some of our activities.

We raised painted lady butterflies and learned about lifecycles.

We continued our study of the solar system and did a great craft to learn about the phases of the moon. Here is a link to the craft template and instructions...

His baby brother joined us the evening of the 29th of May after just over an hour of labour. He was born at home, as planned, and weighed in at 9lbs! With his arrival school was out for an early summer holiday.
